UPI123PAY for feature phones will have all of the necessary smartphone features. This initiative will improve digital payments to a higher level, paving the way for a cashless economy.

“Two landmark initiatives are being launched today that is UPI123Pay and DigiSaathi. These two represent two diverse yet significant dimensions of our payments ecosystem. In UPI123Pay, there are broadly three steps which will take a user to take to complete transactions. UPI123Pay is about empowering more people to get onboarded digital experience through feature phones. “The launch of UPI123Pay makes the facilities under UPI now accessible to that section of society which was so far excluded from the digital payment landscape. In that way it is promoting financial inclusion in our economy,” Das added.

How to use UPI123PAY

There are more than 40 crore Indians using feature phones and they are unable to use digital payment methods. Keeping this in mind, the RBI has launched digital payment method using which feature phone holders can now also access digital payment methods. A common server site library has been created to allow feature phone holders to use digital methods to transact.

With the 123PAY feature, one does not need internet connectivity to transact online. Further, this service can be accessed in various Indian languages.

With the new facility, both smartphone and feature phone holders can now easily transact digitally.

UPI for feature phone, i.e., UPI123Pay is a three-step process – call, choose and pay.

Before starting to make the payment, it is required that user links his/her bank account with the feature phone.

Further, using his/her debit card, he/she will be required to set a UPI PIN.

Once the UPI PIN is set, the user can use his/her feature phone to transact just like a smartphone user.

The feature phone user will be required to call on the IVR number and select the phone depending on the service required such as money transfer, LPG gas refill, FasTag recharge, mobile recharge, balance check etc.

To transfer money, one will have to select the phone number of the person to whom money is to be transferred, enter the amount and UPI PIN.

To pay to a merchant, he can use app based payment method or missed call payment method.

He/she can also used voice based method to make the digital payments.
