The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has launched the Aadhaar Paperless Offline e-KYC which is a secure, sharable document that can be used for offline identification verification by those with an Aadhaar number. It will allow service providers and Offline Verification Seeking Entities (OVSE) to verify Aadhaar numbers without having to collect or keep them.

What data is covered in e-KYC

While downloading/obtaining offline e-KYC data, following fields are included in the XML you will find on the UIDAI website:

  • Resident Name
  • Download Reference Number
  • Address
  • Photo
  • Gender
  • DoB/YoB
  • Mobile Number (in hashed form)
  • Email (in hashed form)

How to generate Aadhaar eKYC?

According to the UIDAI website, one should follow these steps to generate Aadhaar Offline e-KYC:

Step 1: Visit
https://resident.uidai.gov.in/offlineaadhaar

Step 2: Enter your ‘Aadhaar Number’ or ‘VID’ and enter security code

Step 4: Click on ‘Send OTP’ or ‘Enter TOTP’

Step 5: The OTP for the given Aadhaar number or VID will be delivered to the registered Mobile Number.

Also, TOTP will be available through UIDAI’s m-Aadhaar mobile application. Enter the received OTP/TOTP.

Step 6: Create a 4-character Share Code after entering your Aadhaar/VID. Using the same Share Code, a ZIP file containing the Resident’s Paperless Offline eKYC will be password protected. The crucial thing to note here this “Share Phrase” is what must be provided to agencies in order for KYC data to be read.

Click the ‘Download’ button after entering a Share Code, which is the ZIP file’s password.

Step 7: The digitally signed XML will be transferred to the device where the following steps have been completed as a Zip file.

How to share Aadhaar Paperless Offline e-KYC Data

The Aadhaar number holder may offer the verifying agency with Aadhaar Paperless Offline e-KYC data in digital or physical format, along with these:

XML/PDF is the digital format- When a high-quality photograph is required, this format is chosen.

QR code (printed format)- When a resident prefers to receive information in a printed format. Only for visual inspection, a low-resolution photo was taken.
