One of the big car companies, KIA, has decided that it will now go big bang in the Indian car market. It will now double its bloom in the market. For this, KIA will launch new models for the Indian roads. The Korean auto-giant will also increase its production capacity, along with its sales network in the country.

Currently, the company has only three models for Indian roads. These three are Seltos, Sonet, and Carnival. The automaker is now planning to launch a mid-multi-purpose vehicle in the country in early 2022. The company is also looking to overcome the losses it had to face due to Covid-19. It is to be noted that KIA already has a premium MPV in the form of Carnival. But the new MPV is said to be a mid-size MPV by the company.

In an interaction with the TOI, Tae-Jin Park said, “We are right now focusing on SUV and MPV segments, and as part of that, we are looking at the feasibility of some kind of an MPV. So we are looking at that possibility and preparing.” Tae-Jin Park is the India Executive Director and Chief Sales and Business Strategy Officer of KIA.

He also said that they are also focusing on the electric vehicles market, given that the government is focusing on those segments as well. “What I can say right now is that we are analyzing what kind of an EV can be launched in this market. We have not finalized it yet, but we are looking at it,” he further discussed.

Park also expressed his concern about the situation of Covid-19 and the losses KIA burdened. But, he is also very optimistic that they will surely recover. “The current situation is impacting sales, but we already have some experience from last year, so it will not take a very long time. We will overcome this difficult time. I think maybe before the festival season; the market will recover again,” he said.

Specs of the Car:

  • 4.5m in length
  • LED DRLs above the wraparounds headlamps
  • Expected to be 1.5 liters-diesel engine
  • It is named to be KY MPV
