Boost to make in India: Govt bans import of foreign drones from today

NEW DELHI: In a bid to promote made-in-India drones, India has from Wednesday banned the import of foreign drones. Import of drone components, however, shall not require any approvals.
A senior aviation ministry official said exceptions have been provided for import of drones for research and development, defence and security purposes, but only after following due clearances.
“With the liberalised Drone Rules, 2021, drone airspace map, drone PLI scheme, drone certification scheme and single window DigitalSky Platform in place, this is a good time to invest in the Indian drone industry,” said the official.
