3% DA hike to aid 116 lakh Central staff, pensioners | India News

NEW DELHI: The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved a three percentage point increase in dearness allowance and dearness relief for central government employees and pensioners. The increase or the additional instalment is over the current rate of 31% of basic pay or pension is meant to compensate for price rise. It’ll be effective January 2022.
The increase is in accordance with the accepted formula, which is based on recommendations of the 7th Central Pay Commission. The combined impact on the exchequer on account of DA and DR would be Rs 9,544.5 crore per annum. This will benefit about 47.6 lakh central government employees and 68.6 lakh pensioners.
